The Health Lectures for Atomic Bombing Survivors

What are the Health Lectures for Atomic Bombing Survivors?

What are the Health Lectures for Atomic Bombing Survivors?
Established in cooperation with the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences of Nagasaki University (currently the Atomic Bomb Disease Institute of Nagasaki University) in June 2008, this lecture series is part of the “Radiation Exposure Medical Cooperation Project” implemented by the Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims (under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare). We have continued to hold these Health Lectures for Atomic Bombing Survivors out of a desire to ease the physical and mental suffering of the increasingly frail and elderly bomb victims.
Today, the lectures are open not just to the survivors, but also to their families and friends, and are also streamed live online to residents in the Goto Islands off the coast of Nagasaki.

Lecture themes

The lectures cover a wide range of themes, relating to both mind and body, and are delivered by specialists such as doctors from Nagasaki University Graduate School, public health nurses, practical nurses, physiotherapists and clinical psychologists. In the previous fiscal year lectures concentrated on themes that are familiar in everyday life, such as infections, dementia, slips and falls, the thyroid gland, and teeth cleaning.

Simultaneous streaming links the main venue with remote venues

The lectures were at first only provided in the main Nagasaki venue, but from June 2012, with the cooperation of various persons concerned, the project was expanded to provide simultaneous online streaming of the lectures to the residents of Goto City, for the purpose of sharing health-related information with residents on outlying islands.
